EAT E-Flat with Yosegi turntable
EAT's E-Flat is a new, future-oriented turntable, equipped with a revolutionary flat tonearm. Although flat tonearms have been observed in the past, none of them have been able to provide the stiffness necessary to deliver the stable performance expected of modern tonearms today. Thanks to the continuous development of carbon fibre, Forte has managed to develop a tonearm with the practical and aesthetic advantages of a flat form, but without the disadvantages.
The mission of E-Flat is to offer the music lover the highest possible performance in the best quality, but in a user-friendly design. Ultra-flat, ultra-light and ultra-stiff, the E-Flat tonearm is 10 inches long. A single point bearing supports the E-Flat, and its fully (and easily) adjustable counterweight is decoupled by energy and vibration absorbing sorbothane. The E-Flat's single-point bearing system is extremely precise and accurately balanced thanks to components with particularly hard metal surfaces. Unwanted movement, which is often ascribed to single-point bearing constructions that are not as high quality, is prevented by the large mass of the bearing housing and the additional safety of two metal guides.
Another valuable advantage is that its carbon fiber tonearm "tube" can be replaced by the user to accommodate special pickup requirements, with either lighter or heavier tubes to set different resonant frequencies of the tonearm/cartridge system. Adjustable anti-skating and a damped cueing lever are also available.
A flat tonearm opens up a number of possibilities for the designer - and also for the listener. Its shape encourages the design of a flatter turntable with easier, visible tonearm compensation, and there is no need to accommodate a cone. The perfect integration of the column of the single point bearing means there is no hollow tube exposed to the inevitable echoes or ringing, greater rigidity, a completely new and superior suspended counterweight construction with very high damping properties, and the characteristics of the E-Flat tonearm can be described as truly quiet and incredibly "fast".
This beautiful and innovative tonearm is mounted on a turntable based on the basic principles established by the existing models of the Forte family. As a belt-driven construction, it has two motors like its "bigger brothers and sisters". The two motors do not run in parallel but work like a virtual 24 pole motor. The belt wraps around an inner bottom plate, which is equipped with an inner bearing with bronze bush. The main platter rests on an inverted bearing and a ceramic ball, with Teflon lining on the underside of the main platter.
As with the larger Forte turntables, the diameter of the platter is oversized compared to most competitors' turntables. A diameter of 33 cm was chosen because its moving mass is twice as high as that of a conventional 30 cm diameter turntable. Forte applies a vinyl mat made from reconditioned vinyl records to create a surface with properties similar to those of the vinyl records to be recorded. The turntable is filled with sorbothane on the underside to stop resonances, and sorbothane is also used to damp the bearing housing, the tonearm base and the magnetic feet. In addition to the vibration isolation provided by the magnetic feet, the bearing structure and the turntable platter support are spring-mounted. The Forte E-Flat also shares a perfect balance between mass charge and a well thought-out sub-chassis construction with the higher priced Forte turntables.
